
Gillis Lundgren in Ikea Gillis Lundgren was born in Sweden in 1929 and was the fourth employee to join Ikea, when the company was a small mail-order business in the town of Almhult. Creative director and designer full of ideas, always overflowing with enthusiasm, was an important part of what Ikea is currently. Gillis studied painting and drawing and at 23 years old, he started working at Ikea, first as a consultant to create their catalog, then he helped develop the logo, illustrate the covers, and take photos of the products. In 1954, he was hired as the advertising director of Ikea. But he soon became involved in the development of the furniture range and took on an important responsibility, contributing with many iconic designs. His inventiveness and curiosity about new materials and smart solutions resulted in more than 400 products.

Sirius armchair, design by Gillis Lundgren for Ikea. Sweden 1,971.. Reinforced fiberglass structure, swivel base in the shape of a chrome metal wheel, and upholstery in chocolate brown fabric. Icon of Swedish design, which appears in the book 'Swedish Furniture of the 70s' by Andreas Siesing from 2021, it is a very 'spatial' vintage piece and hard to find. This model appears on the cover of the 1971 IKEA catalog, under the slogan: "Those who choose plastic today will not be pioneers, that era has already passed! The material for the furniture of tomorrow is a safe investment."
